Missouri APCO Recognizes Shift Supervisor Swaim of Callaway County Joint Communications as a Missouri Teammate in Action

The Missouri Chapter of APCO is pleased to recognize Shift Supervisor Rebecca Swaim of the Callaway County Joint Communications Center as a Missouri Teammate in Action!

On Jun 19th, 2023, Shift Supervisor Rebecca Swaim was working with Shift Supervisor Jordan Killion when Killion began to experience a medical emergency.

Typically, the Callaway County Joint Communications Center has always worked with three personnel on shift, but due to the staffing crisis, had reduced their staffing to two telecommunicators on shift at a time.

In a situation that was already stressful, Shift Supervisor Killion began to have a seizure. Shift Supervisor Swaim reacted quickly and began to check on Killion’s status while quickly dispatching the fire department, emergency medical services and law enforcement to the 9-1-1 center. While this was underway, Swaim also contacted supervisory staff and continued to answer and process calls for service that continued to come in to the center.

Shift Supervisor Swaim maintained her composure and ensured a quick response from field responders, all while performing her job duties and keeping Shift Supervisor Killion calm and safe. For her calm and courageous actions during an extremely stressful event, the Missouri Chapter of APCO is honored to recognize Shift Supervisor Rebecca Swaim as a Missouri Teammate in Action!

Shift Supervisor Swaim was honored during a recognition ceremony conducted at the Callaway County Joint Communications Center on July 30, 2024.
