Session Topics Announced for Annual Summer Summit

Join the Missouri Chapter of APCO along with instructors of the Missouri Professional Training Partnership for this day of free training, networking and a free meal! We will also be holding our summer membership meeting during the lunch break!

Tentative Schedule of Events:

  • Dispatch Priming - A. Stiefermann 9:00 AM - 9:50 AM

    Police shootings have become more visible and controversial. Operators face added pressure and liability considering if they consider that the outcome can be affected by what information is gathered and how that information is relayed. In this block we’ll explore police shootings and discuss in what ways operators can collect and deliver information with everyone’s safety AND their own liability in mind.

  • Why We've Always Done It That Way Doesn't Work Anymore - C. Konarski 10:00 AM - 10:50 AM

    During this block we will talk about how we can get complacent in our daily roles and responsibilities, and why we are so resistant to change. We’ll discuss how to implement change so even the most resistant begin to get excited and how to bring inclusivity to change.

  • Missouri APCO Chapter Meeting 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

  • The MSHP DEFENSE Programs - Lt. Maloney 1:00 PM - 1:50 PM

    During this session, learn about the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s DEFENSE peer Support team and how it can be utilized by your agency following a critical incident. This session will provide an overview of the history of the team, how candidates are selected, how the team assists with the Post Critical Incident Seminar and contact information for your regional coordinators. This program is not just for field responders as members of the Patrol’s Communications Division are represented on the team.

  • Philosophy 101: Aristotle's Comm Center - L. Sneed 2:00 PM - 2:50 PM

    During this session, learn about the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s DEFENSE peer Support team and how it can be utilized by your agency following a critical incident.   • The Inside Out of Peer Wellness - A. Rodgers 3:00 PM - 3:50 PM

    This session takes you INSIDE the idea of peer support and how to help all the different personalities in your center and in yourself. Every center is compiled of different personalities, how do we help them and not hurt them? Learn what we can do to take away the stigma on mental health and how we can help the different personalities we encounter every day!

  • Bridging the Gap - M. Hatton 4:00 PM - 4:50 PM

    This class is about learning about the different generations and how they relate to each other. We have many different generations in the work force and they all have different views, opinions, and ways of relating. This session talks about each of them and how we can try to come together and understand how each think. The goal of this session is to pass on some understanding of each other. The goal is to have every generation in the comm center on the same mission and add a little understanding.
